Wing Commander

Colonel Scott D. Maguire, commander of the Oregon Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, heads a force of more than 600 volunteers dedicated to the organization's three core programs: aerospace education, emergency services and cadet programs.

Maguire oversees CAP’s critical role in Defense Support of Civil Authorities, working alongside the U.S. Air Force to preserve life, alleviate suffering, and provide training support.  He ensures readiness, education and training opportunities for his members and represents their interests to external agencies throughout the state.

Maguire's journey with CAP began in 2006, fueled by a long-held interest in community service. He served in various positions within the Oregon Wing, becoming a qualified member of search and rescue teams at first as a ground team member, and then as an air crew member. He has served as Ground Team Leader, Ground Branch Director and Urban Direction-Finding person. He has served as a Mission Scanner and Airborne Photographer.

He has served as Pacific Region Director of Public Affairs. In the Oregon Wing he served as Vice Commander, Assistant Vice Commander, Assistant Chief of Staff, Assistant Government Affairs Advisor and Public Affairs Officer and Assistant Public Affairs Officer. He served as Squadron Commander of the Columbia Composite Squadron and various other positions within the squadron.

Maguire's dedication to continuous learning led him to graduate from the Pacific Region Staff College, and CAP’s National Staff College. He holds Master ratings in Public Affairs and Command. He actively shares his expertise as an instructor for CAP’s Volunteer University. He is a graduate of Oregon State University and he resides in Gresham.
